Lifeguarding (Blending Learning Format)

Course length: 19.5 hours

The blended-learning Lifeguarding course builds the same knowledge and skills as the traditional in-person training. The online format users to complete interactive lessons and activities on their own time, with instructor-led sessions to reinforce learning and skill building.

Prerequisites

  • Must be 15 years or older.
  • Swim 300 yards continuously demonstrating front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both.
  • Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs.
  • Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds.
    • Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. The face may be in or out of the water. Swim goggles are not allowed.
    • Surface dive, feet-first or head-first, to a depth of 7 – 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object.
    • Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point with both hands holding the object and keeping the face at or near the surface so they are
      able to get a breath. Candidates should not swim the distance under water. Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.

Certification Requirements

  • Successfully complete the online sessions.
  • Attend and participate in all class sessions.
  • Demonstrate competency in all required skills and activities.
  • Demonstrate competency in all required final rescue skill scenarios.
  • Pass both the Section 1 – CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid and Section 2-Lifeguarding Skills final written exams with a minimum of 80 percent.

Prerequisites

Lifeguard re-certifcation courses have the same prerequisties as the Lifeguard training course. You must have a current Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED certificate.


Certification Requirements

  • Attend and participate in all class sessions.
  • Demonstrate competency in all required skills and activities.
  • Demonstrate competency in all required final rescue skill scenarios.
  • Pass both the Section 1 – CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid and Section 2-Lifeguarding Skills final written exams with a minimum of 80 percent.

Prerequisites

  • Must be at least 16 years old.
  • Successfully complete the Online Precourse session.
  • Must swim front crawl, breast stroke, backcrawl, side stroke, elementary backstroke and butterfly at a level 4 proficiency.

Certification Requirements

  • Successfully complete the online Session.
  • Successfully complete the Precourse Session.
  • Attend and actively participate in all course sessions.
  • Successfully complete class activities, including the four practice-teaching assignments.
  • Score a minimum of 80 percent on the instructor course final written exam.

Refunds

No refund will be issued for if you are unable to pass the prerequisite skills evaluation and/or the lifeguarding re-cerfitication course.
