Moonlight Howl and Run

A signature Wolfpack Welcome Week event, the Moonlight Howl and Run is a great way to actively get to know the campus. This 2-mile fun run begins promptly at 11:59 p.m. on Monday, August 14 at the Belltower.

There will be a post-run celebration on the Brickyard with late night snacks, a DJ and games ending at 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 15.

This is a free event. Registration closes at 11:59 p.m.on Sunday, August 13. To register, participants must be logged into their NC State email address and use their Unity ID to register.

Packet pick-up and check-in will take place on Monday, August 14 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Courts 1 and 8 in Carmichael Gym. The first 1,500 students to check-in will receive the popular Moonlight Howl and Run t-shirt. A final check-in option is available at the Belltower from 9:00 – 10:30 p.m.

Race Route

  • Run/walk will begin at the Belltower on the NC State campus.
  • Participants will head south onto Pullen Road.
  • Participants will then head West on Cates Avenue toward Dan Allen Drive. Heading North on Dan Allen Drive, participants will then head East on Founders Drive toward west Broughton Drive. They will then proceed toward the Brickyard/DH Hill Library.

Packet pickup/Check-In

  • Participants may check-in and pick up their packets on Monday, August 14 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Courts 1 and 8 in Carmichael Gym. The first 1,500 students to check-in will receive the popular Moonlight Howl and Run t-shirt. Packets will include t-shirts for the first 1,500 participants to register for the run, as well as glow accessories for all registered participants.
  • A second check-in option will be available at the Bell Tower between 9:00 and 10:30 p.m.
  • Participants must present their NC State ID in order to check-in and pick up their packets.

Race Information

Who is eligible to participate?

All students and faculty/staff of NC State University are eligible to participate. T-shirts are only guaranteed to the first 1,500 participants to register for the run.

How do I register?

Register online through Sunday, August 13.

To register, participants must be logged into their NC State email address and use their Unity ID to register.

What do I wear?

Stand out from the crowd at the Moonlight Howl and Run by wearing bright, neon athletic clothes. Optional accessories include hats, fanny-packs, tutus, and more. Show us your creativity. Take your picture at the NC State Belltower, and then post it to social media, tagging @NCStateUREC, @ncstatedining or using the #ncstatewww hashtag.

Where and when do I get my t-shirt?

T-shirts will be given to the first 1,500 participants that come to Packet Pickup in Carmichael Gym Courts 1 and 8 between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on Monday, August 14. Participants will need to present their NC State ID in order to receive their t-shirt and glow accessories.

What time should I be there?

It is recommended that all participants arrive no later than 11:00 p.m. Pre-race activities, including a group warm up led by University Recreation, will begin at 11:15 p.m.

Where should I park?

On-campus residents are encouraged to walk to the Belltower. Parking will be available in the Dan Allen and Coliseum parking decks.

What route does the run follow?

Will the race be cancelled due to bad weather?

The run will be canceled if inclement weather is expected to arrive during the event. An email will be sent out to all registered participants if a decision is made to cancel. Please follow @NCStateUREC on Twitter to stay up to date on any weather related delays.

Are dogs allowed on the run?

Dogs will not be allowed on the run route.
