Campout

Fall Harvest and Campout at the NC State Farm

Date: Friday, September 21 – Saturday, September 22

Time: Friday at 3:30 p.m. to Saturday at 12 p.m.

Cost: $20 per student

Registration Deadline: Wednesday, September 19 at 12 p.m.

Trip Itinerary

Friday
3:30 p.m.

Trip starts: Check in at the Carmichael Recreation Center, at the Outdoor Adventures Equipment Rental Center.

  • Load up the bus and drive to the NC State farm.
  • Arrive at the farm and unload the bus.
  • Learn how to set up tents, set up camp. Once camp is set up, help on the farm.
  • Fun time. Play lawn games, socialize or explore the farm.
  • Help cook dinner with food harvested from the farm.
  • Enjoy time around a campfire, make s’mores, have a jam session or just socialize.
Saturday
  • Wake up, eat breakfast (included) and pack up camp
  • Hike around Yates Mill Pond.
  • Load up the bus and drive back to campus.
  • Arrive back on campus and clean up equipment.
12 p.m.

Trip ends: Finish up your farm experience and have a great rest of the weekend.

Transportation, all meals, equipment and instruction are included. This is a perfect beginner introduction to camping trip and fun for everyone.

Student on Challenge Course

High Ropes Course and Zip Line

Feel free to drive yourself back from the course anytime between 3 –  6 p.m.

Instruction and equipment are included. This is a beginner friendly event and no experience is necessary.

Whitewater

Whitewater Rafting and Camping

Date: Saturday, September 29 – Sunday, 30, 2018

Cost: $150 per student

Saturday
7:00 a.m.

Trip starts: Check in at the Carmichael Recreation Center, at the Outdoor Adventures Equipment Rental Center.

  • Load up the van and start driving to Western North Carolina. Eat lunch on the road (bring money to purchase a meal on the road – not included).
  • Arrive in Western North Carolina and go for a hike.
  • Finish hiking and set up camp.
  • Make and eat dinner (included) at camp.
  • Bedtime. Rest up for Whitewater rafting the next day.
Sunday
  • Wake up, eat breakfast (included), pack up camp and head to Whitewater Rafting .
  • Meet your guides and start the rafting adventure. Eat lunch on the river (included).
  • Finish rafting, load up the van and drive back to campus.
  • Get back to campus, unload and clean gear.
7 p.m.

Trip ends: Finish your adventure and have a great night.

Transportation, most meals, equipment and instruction are included and no experience is necessary.

This is a beginner to moderately strenuous trip. Being able to swim is not a requirement for this trip but being comfortable in the water while wearing a life jacket is recommended.

RavenRock

Hiking at Raven Rock State Park

  • Arrive at Raven Rock, unload van and prepare for a full day of hiking.
  • Start hiking. You will eat lunch on the trail (included).
  • Finish hiking, load up the van, drive back to campus and clean up gear.

Trip ends: Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Transportation, lunch and instruction are included. This will be a moderately strenuous, full day hike.

Pilot Mountain

Sea Kayak

North Carolina Seafood and Service Trip

Date: Friday, October 5 – Sunday, October 7
Time: Friday at 10 a.m. to Sunday at 6 p.m.

Trip Itinerary

Hurricane Florence brought flooding and property damage to much of the North Carolina coast. Spend your fall break helping the Down East area of the coast recover from the hurricane damage. We’ll be visiting the NC Seafood Festival if it is still held this year. More details will be announced as service plans are finalized.

Backpack

Backpacking in Pisgah National Forest

  • Pack up the gear, load the van and head to the mountains.
  • Arrive at the trailhead in Pisgah National Forest. Eat lunch at the trailhead, then start backpacking.
  • Backpack about 3 miles.
  • Get to camp and set up tents, cook dinner and eat.
  • Bedtime. Rest up for the next day.
Friday
  • Wake up, make breakfast and break down camp.
  • Start backpacking for the day. Backpack about 6-8 miles. Eat lunch on the trail
  • Arrive at camp, set up tents, cook dinner and eat
  • Bedtime. Rest up for the next day.
Saturday
  • Wake up, make breakfast, break down camp and start backpacking for the day.
  • Backpack about 7-9 miles. Eat lunch on the trail.
  • Arrive at camp and set up tents, cook dinner and eat.
  • Bedtime. Rest up for the next day.
Sunday
  • Wake up, make breakfast, break down camp, start backpacking for the day
  • Backpack about 1-3 miles. Eat lunch on the trail, in the van or stop on the way back
  • Arrive back at the van, load up equipment and start driving back to campus
  • Arrive back to campus, unload and clean equipment
7 p.m.

Trip ends: Once gear is cleaned, enjoy the rest of your day..

Transportation, most meals, equipment and instruction are included and no experience is necessary.

This will be a moderately strenuous trip where you will be required to carry a 50-pound backpack over rugged terrain in a variety of weather conditions.

Rock Climbing

  • Load up the van and drive to Crowders Mountain State Park.
  •  Arrive at Crowders Mountain. Eat lunch at the trailhead, then start hiking.
  • We will hike into our campsites and explore the park.
  • We will explore 3-5 miles of trails in the park. The hike from the parking lot to the campsite is about 1 mile.
  • Set up camp, cook and eat dinner.
  • Bedtime. Rest up for a full day of climbing the next day.
Sunday
  • Wake up, eat breakfast, pack up camp and hike back to the van.
  • Unload the climbing gear and load up the camping gear
  • Start climbing. Eat lunch at the climbing area
  • Finish climbing, load up the van and head back to campus
  • Arrive back on campus and clean up equipment
7 p.m.

Trip ends: Once clean-up is finished, enjoy the rest of your week.

Transportation, meals, equipment and instruction are included and no experience is necessary.

The hiking day will be easy to moderately difficult and the hike to the campsite will be moderately difficult as you will be carrying backpacks weighing up to 40 pounds with camping gear and food. The climbing portion of the trip is designed to be fun for both beginners and seasoned climbers alike. We will set up a variety of climbs, from easy beginner climbs, up to fun, classic intermediate climbs.

Lake Raleigh Cleanup

Lake Raleigh Service Day

Date: Sunday, October 21
Time: 1 -4 p.m.
Cost: Free. Register through the Evite. Friends, families and others all welcome.

Trip Itinerary

1 p.m.

Meet up at the Dorothy and Roy Park Alumni Center parking lot.

  • Choose to either clean trash off the lake by canoe, pick up litter along the trail, or help with trail maintenance to help prevent erosion and make the trail system less confusing.
  • Please wear clothes that can get messy, closed-toe shoes (if you want to participate in trail maintenance) and bring work gloves (if you have them).  Sunblock, a water bottle and dressing for the weather will also make you more comfortable.  Mainly, just bring yourself. Snacks and water will be provided.
4 p.m.

Grab a selfie with hundreds of pounds of trash and recycling, celebrate a cleaner Lake Raleigh.

Fall Colors

Stone Mountain Fall Colors Hike

Date: Saturday, October 27

  • Arrive at Stone Mountain and get ready to hike for the day. You will eat lunch on the trail (included) and take in the fall colors.
  • Finish hiking, load up the van and head back to campus. Arrive back on campus and clean up equipment.

November

Join our knowledgeable challenge course staff and check out the NC State Challenge Course.You will go up into the high course, traverse the elements then fly off the zip line. Our friendly challenge course staff will walk you through everything you need to know to have a blast at the challenge course, so this is a perfect activity for beginners.

  • Arrive at Roan Mountain State Park. Eat lunch at the trailhead and start hiking
  • Hike 3-5 miles
  • Finish hiking and set up camp and cook and eat dinner
  • Bedtime. Rest up for an exciting day of caving the next day.
Sunday
  • Wake up, make breakfast and break down camp.
  • Load up the van and drive to Worley’s Cave.
  • Arrive at Worley’s cave, gear up and head into the cave.
  • Finish exploring the cave, load up the van and head back to campus. Eat lunch on the road (not included)..
  • Arrive back to campus, unload the van and clean up all equipment.
7 p.m.

Trip ends: Trip ends: Enjoy the rest of your night.

Transportation, equipment, entrance fees, instruction and most meals are included and no experience is necessary.

The hiking will be easy to moderately strenuous. The caving will be moderately strenuous, as you will explore the cave by walking, crawling and sometimes wiggling your way through twists,  turns and narrow openings in the cave.


How to Register

  • Bring your Wolfpack One Card to to the first floor of the Carmichael Recreation Center to register for a trip.
  • Trips are sold on a first-come/first serve basis.
  • Full payment is due at the time of registration.
  • Deposits are accepted if the trips costing more than $100.

Trip Information

  • You must attend the Pre-Trip meeting for you specific trip. If you do not attend the meeting you will be dropped from the trip and a refund will not be given.
  • You must pass the Fitness Assessment and/or Water Comfort Test if required for your trip.
  • You must travel in our vehicles. Driving separately, meeting the group or being picked up is not allowed.
  • Alcohol, tobacco, and drug use are prohibited for the duration of the trip. If you violate these rules you are subject to removal from the trip and transportation back to NC State will be at your expense.

Refunds

To be considered for a refund, please inform us least two weeks before the pre-trip meeting that can no longer attend. You must fill out a refund request, which must be turned into us. Deposits on trips are non-refundable.

For personal emergencies, partial or full refunds between two weeks and the pre-trip meeting may be provided in consideration of written and verifiable proof of inability to attend (a doctor’s note). Documentation must be provided five working days before the trip’s departure date in order for any refund to be considered. No refunds will be given after this period regardless of reason.

All refunds are at the discretion of the Outdoor Adventures Coordinator. Refunds will be provided if we cancel the activity.
